FAQ: FOR THE LOVE OF HAIR

I think the most popular question I get asked about is my hair. Alllllll kinds of hair questions!  About my colour, the types of products I use, my extensions, etc. So I sat down with my hair dresser and answered all of your questions. Before I start, I just want you guys to know that what I use below is not sponsored at all.  These are truly the products I use daily that I love.

Cut/Color:

  • Who does your hair? The queen of hair gods, Bailey Brown.  She is the owner of Below Hair Studio in Edmonton, AB.

  • How do you get so white-blonde? What do I tell my hair dresser to get your colour? Unfortunately, I cannot give out the formula she uses because it’s client specific and what she specializes in.  If you’re in the area I highly recommend you go see her yourself! I can’t say enough good things.

  • How do you keep your blonde such an icy blonde without it getting brassy or turning yellowish? I use purple shampoo once a week, which helps a TON. But if I’m feeling my hair is super brassy, I will go in to get a toning treatment.

  • Do you get highlights or balayage? Highlights.

  • How often do you cut your hair? I used to only cut it once every couple of months, but now I get it trimmed every time I get it coloured.

  • What is my natural hair colour? Strawberry Blonde.

  • How does your root line not show up bad? Bailey smudges my root when I get highlights, which basically means she’s giving me a little bit of a root so that when my hair grows out, it doesn’t look bad.

Extensions:

  • What kind do you have?  The micro weft technique.

  • Are they damaging? Any type of extensions you put in your hair are damaging, except for clip-Ins. These are probably the least damaging professional extensions because there is no heat or glue as opposed to bonded or tape-in’s.  I have found these micro weft to be amazing in my hair, its actually helping my real hair to grow!

  • How much do they cost? There are many factors that go into determining the price of your extensions, and this will completely depend on the hair dresser you go to. For example, how long you want your hair, how many rows you need, how thick your natural hair is, etc.  Prices starting at $400 up to $1200.

  • How long does the hair last? Around 6-12 months, depending on how well you take care of it.

  • How often do you have to get them moved up? Every 3-5weeks, but this also depends on how fast your hair grows.

  • Can you shower/sleep in them? Yes, they just advise you not to sleep with your hair wet.

  • Does it hurt? It doesn’t hurt at all to put them in, but it is a little uncomfortable the first night or two just because they are so tight on your head. You get used to it so quick though and then you honestly can’t even tell they’re in.

Hair Care Products:

  • What shampoo and conditioner do you use? Unite 7 Seconds shampoo and conditioner

  • Purple shampoo? Kevin Murphy Blonde Angel (wash and rinse) — tip: be careful not to leave it in too long or your hair WILL turn purple.

  • How often do you wash your hair? If I have a fresh highlight, I will only wash it once every 5 days (don’t worry – I shower at LEAST once a day, I just don’t get my hair wet). But if my roots have grown in and I’m due for an appointment, I have to wash it every 3 days.

  • What’s your favourite dry shampoo? I have been using this one for a while and I really like it because it smells amazing!

  • Deep conditioning masks? I SWEAR by this stuff.

  • Texturizing Spray? This is another one of my favourite products, ever! I don’t use hairspray much at all,  so I use this to add some volume at the top.

  • Volumizing Powder? If you’ve never tried this then get ready for your life to be changed forever!  It’s similar to a texturizing spray, and adds so much volume to your hair.

  • Leave-in Conditioner? I like this one and this one!  This step is in important!

  • What hair products do you use to keep it so healthy? Top things I would recommend is this deep conditioning treatment, this blow dryer and this dreamy pillow case!

  • Best products for hair growth? I take these vitamins daily and truly think that helps. (3 month supply)

  • Which pony tails do you use to keep your hair up?  These are the best ponytails ever. They hold my hair up great even with the weight of extensions.

I hope this helps for those of you asking! Feel free to leave me a comment below and I’ll get to it as soon as I can!
